The training facility used for Burrard Yacht Club’s (BYC) Sailing Program is the area in front of Waterfront Park, North Vancouver. Land based instruction takes place at BYC 10 Gostick Place, North Vancouver, where the boats are stored.
Classes are designed to be kept small, thus enabling greater one on one instruction with each student enrolled in the program.
CYA (Canadian Yacht Association) Certification is included in the course fee, however manuals must be purchased separately. Daily activities include a variety of day trips, Friday BBQ’s along with numerous land and water based games. Students must provide their own MOT (Ministry of Transport) certified PFD (Life Jacket) with attached whistle. Students are also expected to dress appropriately for the weather and use Sun Protection.
Students are required to remain at BYC under the supervision of the instructor throughout the day. The students must also provide their own lunches when not provided.
CANSail 1 - This course is an introduction to sailing. Covered are water safety, rigging, sailing terminology and basic maneuvers.
CANSail II - This is the transition course from CANSail 1, Continues with water skills, sailing theory, knots, capsizing and sailing rules.

CANSail 3 & 4 - This course consolidates the skills in CANSail 1 & 2. Students will learn further technical aspects of sailing.
